Smooth Cigar Galaxies

Just a curiosity; is it possible that some galaxies that appear to me (from past classifications) as smooth cigar shaped, from a different view point, could be edge-on spiral galaxies?

Yes, edge-ons at some angles could be confused with smooth cigar shapes. If it definitely has a pointed end, then classify as having details, and it is a spiral.
