Jets?

  • rion by rion

What is going on in an object like http://www.galaxyzoo.org/#/examine/AGZ0003cnq -- seems to be a jet around 5 o'clock.

Could be it tossed out a black hole (or other closely orbiting massive objects) after undergoing a merger? Sometimes when two cores get together they don't stabilize out and one gets (for lack of a better definition,) slingshot-ed out. While on it's way out it will tend to drag other lighter material (stars / planets / debris) with it.

Galaxy jets are narrow and small, and can't be seen at large distances. This is huge, so probably #tidal_debris
