Nominate *your* favourite Galaxy for the 'Zooniverse Galaxy of the Week'!
-
by Capella05 moderator
Every Friday, it is the chance of Galaxy Zoo to take the limelight in the Daily Zooniverse newsletter ๐
We thought it would be fantastic if we could get you to nominate your favourite galaxies to take this prestigious position!
All you need to do is hashtag your image with #ZGOTW .
We really look forward to seeing all your submissions!
The GZ Talk Team.

I Searched on this hashtag, and "0 results", not even this post (let alone the galaxy I "nominated")! ๐ฎ
Any idea what's happening?

It is working for me and I got @mrniaboc to check it from his side on Friday ๐

Great idea. Right now - like Jean, I don't see anything if I click on #ZGOTW.
Maybe we should make a collection of things tagged with #zgotw (like @vrooje did for the #NGC tag).

Right now - like Jean, I don't see anything if I click on #ZGOTW.
I think there are a number of separate factors at work here:
- clicking on the hashtag, in this thread for example, doesn't work
- putting ZGOTW or zgotw or #ZGOTW or #zgotw gives the same 14 results* (Search is case insensitive)
- there must be some time before the database Search uses is updated (maybe why Capella05 got results but I didn't, earlier)
I have just encountered a really odd thing: none of the 14 results includes at least one of the galaxies I used #ZGOTW for! ๐ฎ (to be clear, one such is there, but not any of the others). Perhaps it's because it's now pumpkin time (and I can't check anything, because Profile, like Recent and the main page, won't load)?
*as least it did for me, just before pumpkin time

OK - took me a while, but this: http://talk.galaxyzoo.org/#/collections/CGZL00003t should be a collection which automatically includes everything tagged with #zgotw.
Quick how to: Go to an image tagged with #zgotw. Click on "Make a Tag Collection" (to the right of the screen). Deselect all tags but #zgotw. That was it. ๐ Some beauties in there. ๐

Wow - they are all stunning! I am so 'following' this collection ๐

Thanks so much for this! It will make finding good content for Daily Zoo easier and it's great to have images suggested by volunteers rather than just chosen by me every week!
Search on Talk is a bit buggy at points, though normally after a while you should be able to see everything tagged with a certain hashtag.
Cheers

How does the Hubble take such precise images up in the atmosphere

by Budgieye moderator in response to Scorpatron's comment.
Hi Scorpatron, this discussion is for suggestions for nice galaxies. But to answer your question, it is because Hubble is out in space, and there is no air to mess up the image. Here are some nice Hubble images, and explanations as to how galaxies form.

On that sort of subject, does this really replaced the famous OOTD thread? or has that gone (except on the Forum?)

That is the most amazing 3-armed galaxy that I've ever seen! Yes, maybe merging, hard to decide.
