European Astrofest 2015 - Speakers - any ideas?
-
by Capella05 moderator
The official website still hasn't posted the names of any of the invited speakers for the conference**. Does anyone have any 'inside info' on who (and what topics) will be showcased?
I am trying to decide if or what tickets to buy...
Also, I need the info before we create the 'Official' meetup thread 😃
**Edited to add: the website says they will announce it this week, but that message has been up there for a while...

I'm still waiting as well ! Aren't they terribly late with announcing the line-up ?

They are 😦
Usually they post a provisional line-up a few months in advance. This year they are leaving it a bit late for everyone to make plans!

There are a lot of slots "To be Announced" - no wonder they didn't publish it until now...
I see Lembik Opik is not on there this year 😄 (a joke for anyone who has been to Astrofest over the years... 😃 )

Thanks for the start-up thread.
I see Jo Dunkley is giving a talk - I'm attending one of her's this Friday - "Observing the Early Universe", as well as one on Einstein lenses.

As mentioned in my original post I will be starting a separate thread with all the details 😃

At today's RAS meeting, I had a professor (the one in Astrofest's 2015 brochure) asking me, if I knew who was going to talk, as they are still a bit short of speakers - probably need a zooniverse project speaker, for each missing one. I understand the organisation of this year's Astrofest has changed, from previous year's, so that might be something do with it.

Before all the slots were taken up, it was thought about having one on Mars and this forthcoming project -
Twinkle - A new UK satellite project to examine data, from Exoplanets.

However, this one will now be presented next year, when more details are known.
