Galaxy Zoo Talk

gz not secure

  • x303 by x303

Why is the GZ site still not secure ??? Multiple browsers say that the images, which is kinda important for gz, are not secure [unprotected connection]. All other projects (maybe more modern setup) don't suffer from it. With the reports lately of all of these loose virusses it would be nice if it got fixed....

The site is https which means secure?

It suppost to be, but already before logging in, the 'lock' (in the browser window) goes from green to grey and says the connection isn't secure and you shouldn 't enter private data like,,,,, passwords........

Images don't seem to be secure

That's the problem, which doesn't seems to occur with other projects.

What operating system and search engine are you using?

  • x303 by x303

Does that matter ? What has the os and search engine to do with it ?! I'm not searching anything.............
I'm just saying what the browsers (Firefox / Opera) says, ie. unsecure connection, no green lock.

I am just gathering some information before I ask IT to look at it. Are you using a pad or phone?

There was a similar problem 6 months ago.

I use Windows Vista / Chrome, and get a green check ✓ when I search for Galaxy Zoo.

Edit: Windows 10 and Firefox - get a green check.

Not using any pads or phones, just win7 x64 with firefox / palemoon / opera dev.

That's another issue. I'm not searching for anything. I'm just saying that the browser lock (on the left, next to https: in the addressbar) says it's not a secure connection.....

For now, try manually inserting the s in the link?
I know eventually, that there will be an upgrade to Talk.

The 's' is there already. It says 'https'. The problem is that the green padlock (which is shown just before 'https') turns grey with a yellow triangle and a white exclamation mark as soon as one goes into Galaxy Zoo.

I have Windows 7 and Firefox.

Oh, I see now. No green security lock on the address bar.

I will ask a scientist or IT.

But I suspect that they will say the new version of Talk will come soon.

I suspect this is because the images are being served not from galaxyzoo.org but from another part of our system. I'll get the developers to take a look. @x303 - it would be good to (a) know which systems you're using and (b) check whether it's just Galaxy Zoo or not.

Thank you, zookeeper. (The @ command does not work with this old version of Talk.)

    (a) Galaxy Zoo is not secure using several different systems.

    (b) I checked several projects. Planet Four is not secure. Backyard Worlds is secure.

I think the problem is with older projects, such as Galaxy Zoo and Planet Four because, as you say, they import images from elsewhere.

the newer project Backyard Worlds: Planet Nine is secure. I think they make their own images.

Also the umbrella site Zooniverse is secure.

Tested under win7 x64 with the latest firefox / palemoon / opera dev.
    Unsecure sites:

    galaxyzoo.org, radio.galaxyzoo.org, zooniverse.org/projects/wim0705/poppin-galaxy, sciencegossip.org, higgshunters.org, orchidobservers.org, planktonportal.org, batdetective.org, cyclonecenter.org, zooniverse.org/projects/jukoch/pattern-perception, wormwatchlab.org

Planet Four seems secure over here.
