Any ideas or thoughts as to what this is? Also just curious as to what the criterion is that filters objects down into what are thought to be galaxies...

It's a somewhat #poorqualityimage, part of a very rich field of stars, likely close to the galactic plane. Hard to say why the photometric pipeline decided this was more likely a galaxy than a star ...
