  Is it me or does it look really similar to Hoags object?

  I agree that it's similar ... except that the ring is very regular (compared with Hoag's object), so more likely formed by secular evolution rather than a collision. Well, that's my view anyway.

  I'd call this thingie a ringed galaxy. That is where the spiral arms fold back and form a ring
