Lensing light bending & layering

Can a massive galaxy lens the light of a similar sized remote galaxy & create these layered curves, even where at least one over-extends the host? Usually quasars lens as 2 or 4 ultra bright spots, so I'm thinking the originating galaxy is more probably simply massive, likely an elliptical.
