Collision remnants

  This photo seems to show a collision event (forming a new elliptic) and some thrown off star clusters also there is another of the same type of event to the upper right of frame. Is there any other interpretation possible?

  The central object looks more like a fuzzy spiral to me. The round dots are probably foreground stars from our galaxy.
