Hyperanvilure distortion

I'm not a scientist, but would appreciate feedback regarding the potential gravitational process that could distort an existing galaxy, or more probably disrupt the formation of a developing galaxy. It seems incredible that this format can exist in a massive stellar body.

Thanks Elisabeth. The optical image is not as clear as this infrared, but is still phenomenal.
