What's the red stuff?

  Could be an artifact but most of the artifacts I see are pretty solid with even color. This object seems to have two separate parts with two distinct shades of color.

  Any ideas?

  I'd go for artifact as well.

  The artifacts in these infrared images from the UKIDS Survey are pretty strange.
