    What is creating that ring around the bottom left bright blue spot?

    That blue ring is a type of artifact caused by really bright objects over-saturating the camera. In this case it is the bright core in neighbouring galaxy.

    This is a Infrared image, so it looks slightly different to optical images. Here is the image from SkyServer, it is slightly rotated, but you can compare the 2.
