    A star with half its surface covered by a blue glow. Any ideas what this is?

    The colours of the stars are not real, they are artifacts caused by over saturation.

    The galaxies we are looking at can be quite faint, so we have long exposure times, this causes some interesting artifacts when bright objects (like stars) are involved.
