When Galaxies merge

    New to Galaxy Zoo. Curious to know what it would look like in picture when 2 or more galaxies have completely merged? Apologies for ignorance but do the galaxies cancel each other out or form 1 big new galaxy?

    When these two galaxies have completely merged, a very, very long time from now, we would most probably see one big elliptical galaxy.
