this looks like a star that is being torn apart by the other star, except i do not think that is what is really happening. since the trail that looks like its being torn apart is traveling in the opposite direction.

It does look like the two galaxies have had a collision. The bigger one looks more torn apart. The little one seems to have lost most of its stars, and what is left behind is pink, which is an indication of hot hydrogen. Maybe its black hole is being well fed on the remains of the collision and is an active quasar.
