Looks sort of like a serpent.

    Is this a known nebula?

I don't see it mentioned over here: http://www.galaxyzooforum.org/index.php?topic=273756.0

The inverted image makes me wonder, is this nebula after all? Or is it an artifact?

I'd go, for nebula. Nice catch! 😄

    Thanks, Billy and Elisabeth 😃.
The shape in the inverted image made me wonder if somebody had dropped a marker by accident and caused an irregular line.

The weird shape of the "nebula" made me check Sky View. I can't see it in those images. HOWEVER... I zoomed out even further than on Skyserver and I may have found the cause of the feature, a very bright star top right:

    The star's coordinates: 00 13 13.73 +02 49 33.1
