There seems to be a sort of jet

    Is this a jet from the object or an unrelated thing or an artifact of the photography?
    I can tell for sure, these would make a great research topic.

    I think that it is a star with some photographic effect. If the bigger picture is used, you can see lots of stars and the boundary edge. Notice general green colour, perhaps because of filters etc. The object is in the middle still.
