Merger with different redshift?

If you invert it the image is even clearer. What I find interesting with the picture is how the two (seemingly) interacting bodies have distinct colours. Would this suggest they are actually far apart from each other or is something else happening that causes them to appear different colours despite the light travelling the same distance?

The central object is a galaxy, but the bright round object is a foreground star from our galaxy. So, there is definitely no merger going on here.
