Nice Blue Ring!

Very conspicuous blue ring, did that small galaxy at 7:30 have anything to do with it.

This is an Illustris sim, so the everything except what's in the center (and/or obviously overlapping/interacting with it) is just 'background', taken from SDSS.

So, I'd so no. And as to how the blue ring came to be? Well, that will be in the Illustris data, in the form of this galaxy's (simulated) history.

Hi @galaxy4565 and welcome to Galaxy Zoo! 😃

The galaxy at the center is a spiral or disk galaxy and the blue regions within it are localised areas of star formation. It is normal to see this in relatively young galaxies.

Even if this was not a simulated galaxy, there is not enough distortion or disturbance to suggest it is interacting with the edge-on galaxy at 7:30 😃

Remember to classify the Illustris images as if they were from any other survey, it should make no difference that they are computer generated.

Hope this helps and thanks for your clicks!
