Blobby galaxy

  • bundrew by bundrew

This galaxy appears to have a number of blobby features within the halo of gas. There also appears to be a lens at the center of the image (bright blue circle). I think the blobs might either be very large star forming regions or several galactic nuclei from a mid-stage merger. The irregularity of the shape makes me think it's a merger at some stage, but I can't say I've seen a galaxy quite like this before. Thoughts?

I would say it looks like a young somewhat irregular galaxy with lots of star formation. Perhaps a slight spiral shape might be developing?
