Abnormality?

  • Solan by Solan

    This galaxy appears like a typical spiral galaxy at first glance, but when I switched the lighting, I noticed the tiniest sliver of what appears to be matter drifting from the galaxy to another place a little bit below and to the left of said galaxy. Is this some sort of abnormality? Or a possible black hole sucking matter from the galaxy?

    Hi @Solan,

    Welcome 😃

    I am not so sure what you mean about switching the light? Do you mean inverting the image?

    Look forward to hearing back from you!

    I'm think Solan is referring to the 'structure' in the middle of this cutout, am i right Solan?

    Which I always find very interesting especially if they are present in different surveys, but usually they are artifacts / removed artifacts / change pixel alignments etc. etc. This one also looks faintly present in DECaLS and SDSS both.

    Here are some more examples in a thread I now and then update out of curiosity;
