Hmm.. I don't see ElisabethB's comment either. Maybe she was thinking of her other post to you. Well, maybe she was going to say is that the Whirlpool Galaxy is a large galaxy that is "close" to our Milky Way galaxy. It looks a bit whirlpoolish, but I suppose most spirals would.
The two points of light are foreground stars in our galaxy.
Am I close? ElisabethB?

So sorry, everyone ! And Budgieye is right : two foreground stars, conveniently placed at either side of the spiral galaxy.

Thank you very much for the reply. I'm having a lot of fun looking through all of these images, and i'm very pleased to know there are people i can discuss interesting findings with.
