Bright object in one of the arms

  • nazarm by nazarm

Can someone comment on the object in the arm of this galaxy. Is it a star/galaxy within the arm or just behind/in front of the view plain?

The bright star is a foreground star, it is in our own galaxy, much "closer". We can't see individual stars in distant galaxies unless they explode as supernovae. This isn't a supernova, it is the wrong colour and is present in both DECsLS and SDSS images taken 10 years apart.
