Green spot next to core. Nova or cosmic ray? Lots of dust at centre. I can't determine what it is.

Yes, easier to see in SDSS. The green spot is hot hydrogen made by being sprayed with radiation from an active nucleus. The hydrogen alpha peak in the spectrum is at 6600A, which is green on SDSS.
