Candidate unreported supernova / green transient

  • Ghost_Sheep_SWR by Ghost_Sheep_SWR

    RA Dec 341.53017 -10.36779

    Host IC 1451 z=0.03024

    Green transient @ 1 o'clock. Doesn't look like an asteroid, but not really supernova either (a bit dim?). Visible in two SDSS images, not present in PanSTARRS, no hit in the transient name server, no image in DECaLS yet.

    Still need to do the SDSS field image coverage check and get right dates on them but server is too slow atm.

    Finally SDSS server responding normally again. The two SDSS images above are from the same date, only enhanced.

    The transient is not present on MJD 51791, (month-day-year) 09-04-2000
    http://dr12.sdss3.org/fields/runCamcolField?run=1662&camcol=1&field=76

    It is present a year later on MJD 52171, (month-day-year) 09-19-2001

    It is not present in the PanSTARRS image. Anyone knows how to retrieve the right date of that one?

    Probably just not possible right now;

    The labels above each image identify the image type (always "stack" for the current DR1 release), the image identifier (these come from skycell.2069.026), and the filter.

    Stacked images have no single MJD and even the single filter images are stacked images. But it is likely from around 2014-ish, so that makes a series of before, during and after images 😃
