This looks really odd! Jetsreams or polarring? Voorwerp(je)?

Very unusual, and still we have no explanation. Please re-post this in

If you could choose, which objects would you pick?

FYI it is in the original GZ Voorwerp paper as 'candidate' voorwerp list, not in the 'confirmed' or 'other clouds' list.

First I thought of a maybe vorweerp like feature too, but it seems so symetrical on both sides, and so huge in diameter? How much energy would be required for such gigantic "neon tubes" and where does it come from...? But also, for relativistic jets, those would be very, very large - can't be, you're right. We are looking on two ellipticals I guess, with a little chance that the companion could be a very bulgy edge-on view object that is in some kind of transformation process. The interaction type between both objects is not clear, but it could also be the companion that is draining materia from the center object, so it could be an accretion event?
Maybe its just the moment or shortly after when the galactic nucleus gets "active"? Anyway, some kind of radiation burst, illuminating surrounding gas clouds seems much more reasonable than gigantic jets.
It is definitely one of the most interesting images I've ever seen among thousands of others here. Would be great to see this in higher resolution!
I'll repost...
