What's that crazy glowing red dot?

Not only does this galaxy look a bit like a square, but there's an odd, red, glowing spot next to it. Is that just an trick of the camera lens or something else?

The strange dot with the red center is sadly just a foreground star from our galaxy. And the red dot is just an optical zrtifact.
