Purple "star"

Strange purple color object, also in PanSTARRS. What is it? SDSS says galaxy but unreliable. 123764870353282690
photoz 0.11 ±0.14

The galaxy in the middle has a redshift z= 0.04 according to NED, and a photoz of 0.3, which is wrong.
Many suggestions as to what it is in Recent.
Foreground star ? z=0 If photoz is wrong it might be a binary star, one blue and one red.

Part of galaxy? It's magenta-coloured and really stands out from the rest of the galaxy which is a radio source. AGN cloud?

Behind the galaxy, shining through the arms? If it is behind, then the colour of the original object will be affect by dust in the galaxy, taking away blue, and making it redder. PhotoZ=0.111 zErr=0.145, but I suppose the object could still be a purple pea.
Might be a distant starburst galaxy at z=0.8, but looks quite round, so maybe not. Post starburst.Posted

The object looks like a purple pea, but shines brighter than you would expect, if it was behind the galaxy, I think.
Perhaps one could find purple peas in starforming galaxies like this one at a redshift of 0.042?

I knew I had similar objects, from my collection "Three of a kind", will be four of a kind 😃 Pretty rare AFAIK

Your second example of a purple pea with a redshift of 0.049 looks very similar to our object in the present thread.
Our purple object doesn't have a spectrum, but if it is a purple pea, it could well be a part of the central galaxy with a redshift of 0.042.

Yeah definitely, I agree. Although this one is a bit lighter purple / magenta.
The second example has as good as certain the same redshift as the spiral, so even if these are 'just' starforming / starburst areas they're still very strange and rare.
More info on second example on page 10 of the 'Objects that need more research' thread. https://talk.galaxyzoo.org/?_ga=1.244656832.476670387.1443719759#/boards/BGZ0000004/discussions/DGZ0000ycq

Thanks for the interesting link with some of the information applicable to our case. But without a spectrum and a reliable redshift it will be difficult to say anything for certain.

Agree. But just our eyeballs, and calling on our years of experience. we can sometimes make a good guess, even with incomplete data.
