odd artifacts

  Seem to be linear features parallel with the greater visible dimension of the galaxy - could this just be an artifact of the viewing instrument or a lensing/arc feature ?

  Welcome cactus.cliff. Yes some sort of artifact. You can recognize artifacts because they have sharp edges. Real galaxy stuff is fuzzy.
