Spiral and Pea

The spiral is starforming with a big dustlane. On the left side is a purple pea. There is no spectrum on it but with years of seeing peas I am pretty sure its one. Cheers, Magi

Do you mean this?
http://skyserver.sdss.org/dr9/en/tools/explore/obj.asp?id=1237671129124700304
It has a label GAMA 136413 in NED and its GALEX id is: http://galex.stsci.edu/GR6/?page=explore&photo=true&objid=6382069252979952478

It's pretty! It's hard to know what the connections are between the 2 objects without separate spectra of each. For example the purple dot could be a distant quasar very far behind the edge-on spiral, or a knot of star formation that's part of the spiral galaxy (we wouldn't expect to see it so high). Alternatively, it could be a small galaxy merging with the larger spiral.
It looks like in SDSS at least, we only have a spectrum for the spiral galaxy, so it's hard to know for sure what the neighboring compact object is.http://skyserver.sdss.org/dr9/en/tools/chart/chart.asp?ra=174.77022295&dec=-1.79672248

Thanks, It was the brightness that caught my eye. I thought Quasar but its really difficult at times without all the info but I still make a guess its just my way.. Cheers, magi
