Possible Green & Blue peas

  • planetaryscience by planetaryscience

Figured I've been reporting enough of these, it's time I made a thread for possible GB/blueberry reports.

Be aware that none of these objects have a measured redshift unless otherwise stated, and are only suspected of being green peas through photometric elimination.

    IDENTIFYING A GREEN PEA:

    • While green is definitely a rather uncommon color in the SDSS sky, several different kinds of objects can appear 'green' and only a small subset of these are actually peas.
<> * One of the more common appearances are asteroids. Those can easily be told apart from GPs by a red/blue source near it, as well as not appearing in any other surveys.
      <
      > * Some Quasars may appear a greenish color, but nearly all quasars have strong emissions in WISE images (available here: http://irsa.ipac.caltech.edu/applications/wise/)
<*> * Lastly, some stars can appear somewhat greenish, but you can often tell them apart quite easily: Green peas are very clearly 'green' and are much brighter in ultraviolet than normal stars.

They look like peas but no spectrum one listed as a star and one as a galaxy. Thanks BM

There is already a discussion in Talk for green peas, started by Rick_N. who has been collecting and analyzing them for years. The "green pea" scientist ccardamone will be looking for updates in that discussion.

I suggest that you put possible new green peas in that.

Blueberries. I just think of them as "blue peas" There are many discussions in the Forum with blue peas or OIII objects, about them. But you could start this as a fresh discussion in Talk. If you start a big new discussion, I hope you will answer questions on it, and be familiar with previous work done in the Forum.

Green Bean (GB) galaxies are very rare, so it will be a short discussion project.
