Possible Galaxy

  • Terry_Day by Terry_Day

If this image is examined as an inverted image there appears to be a spiral galaxy edge-on centrally below the green line across the image. There are four objects above in a line almost parallel to the green line dividing the image. The object I have identified as a potential galaxy is below the right hand object of the line of four and approximately the same distance below it.

Definitely a distant edge-on galaxy in that image. However it's not in the centre, so I think the source finder picked up the artifact and this should be classified as an artifact (we always classify the central object). Nice eyes though!

i agree Terry it's about as close to the center as you can get.

Can I clear the air a little please. Irrespective of the artefact at dead centre of the image, does the slightly off-centre edge-on galaxy enter the records, or is it likely to be identified in a different notification by the "source finder"?
