merging galaxies strange light

These galaxies appear to be merging. The galaxy on the left seems to be emitting a weird blue glow top and bottom. Any thoughts?

They seem to be bright in UV.. jets? But awfully large if so.

I don't think the blue thingies are jets. They look like star forming areas. Probably caused by the interaction with the central galaxy.
