What effect is causing these?

  Assuming no giant space faring light sabres I have come across a couple of these. What is causing them?

  This is the trail left behind when a satellite passes across the field of view. They move pretty quickly so you usually only see them in one filter (red, green or blue) and they're usually long streaks.
