At first glance a centre with arms, but they appear to reach out in a ghostly embrace, or is it a single arm?

Yes, strange, I noticed the same thing; although I still believe to see a dense dominant center bulge with more than a few spiral arms (either barely visible or I'm just thinking I can see them), and of course that single big arm on the left.
