Interesting red lines

    Anyone have any ideas about the two red lines under this galaxy (artifacts?)

    It's a diffraction spike from a nearby bright star, just outside the frame.

    This is NGC 488 -- the star is cut off in this image but you can see it if you go to the SDSS SkyServer's Navigate tool, put in the coordinates (here's a link with the coordinates already filled in), and click the "Get Image" button on the left.

    The delicate spirals in this galaxy are absolutely gorgeous.
