Lens or artefact in shadowed bulge and red object

  Peculiar - the central bulge has a dark shadow and the red object to the upper right looks almost identical in size and similar dark shadow.
  Is this a Lens or just an artefact?

  I would say, its an artefact. A lens should be drawn-out to some extent.
  But there is such a red flicker between the two spheres. I wonder if this is an effect from the image resolution or something else?

  I agree optical artefact.
  And the red blob is probably a foreground star
