How would you classify this??

  • StereoSpace by StereoSpace

I look at images like this and my first instinct is to classify it as smooth and rounded, like an elliptical. However, it clearly has a bright core and a hint of spiral arms. I find myself staring at images like this over and over, not knowing how to classify them.

    Anyone have advice?

Just give it your best guess and trust your instincts!

You can also look at the Help for example classifications for each question.

No one loses! 😃 Every classification is valuable (as long as you're not deliberately trying to classify in a way that you know full well is wrong or misleading). There are no "wrong answers".

It looks smooth and round, but there is a very predominant bulge. The objects around the galaxy are interesting too. Are they stars? I am also curious about the bright light coming from the upper right hand corner.
