Just overlapping?

    3 galaxies and 2 stars? all stars? Very unusual grouping.

    2 stars, 3 #ellipticals (certainly ETGs - early type galaxies - i.e. either elliptical or lenticular), which are probably #overlaps. At the heart of a rich cluster of galaxies, there are sometimes so many ellipticals it's impossible to even begin to work out which are overlapping and which merging.     Besides, if the merging ellipticals have no gas (often, but not always the case), how could you tell if they were merging?
