Unusual triangle

  • dosey by dosey

Rather an interesting triangle shape on the left but difficult for me to choose how to classify, is it part of the galaxy behind any suggestions?

Hard to be sure, but the blob closest to the nucleus of the galaxy may be an overlapping galaxy, as may the orange blob furthest. However, it's more likely all three blobs are foreground stars. The cyan color is (almost certainly) an artifact. The galaxy looks like a #blueelliptical in this image, but in the SDSS DR8 image (you know how to click through to get to that, right?) it's salmon-pink ... which is usually a sign of it being an #AGN. No spectrum though, so can't be sure ...

Thank you Jean, I must use the SDSS images more when I have a query. I have only tonight looked up how to # link...as thought it didn't work before but found the right path to it in the Talk page.
