Does this look like two flares coming out of the centre? You can see a bulge on the upper-right side of the centre, and a second one is apparent when inverted, heading out the opposite side. Thoughts?
Remember that the 2-dimensional photo you are looking at is of a 3-dimensional universe (ignoring any unseen dimensions). Things that look to be one object may be several objects billions of light years apart — some much closer to us and others much further away.
Absent any indication that the galaxies are distorting each other in a gravitational tug-of-war, you can assume they are probably #overlapping from our point of view, but in fact not close to each other at all.
