is it a possibility that it is a very large black hole? judging by the sprials the dark area appears to be central to the galaxy?

I think it is safe to say that that is definitely not a black hole.

Not a BH or dark matter. I agree with Karen: just a very disturbed galaxy, maybe even one that just looks like a disk in projection.
