Dark red spot

  I've not seen a dark red spot like the one in this image at the 11 o'clock position before. Looking at the neighbourhood on SkyServer it appears to have better resolution than any of the stars in the image which leads me to assume it must be some kind of artifact. There is certainly a great deal of noise in the colour giving a red and green 'blizzard' effect - just none of it quite so distinct and round. Are there are known duff pixels!? Any other thoughts?
