distorted galaxy?

  Can someone explain this image? It looks like a star is in the foreground of an edge-on galaxy. Peeking out of the 11 o'clock position of the star appears to be part of the galaxy. If this is true, the galaxy has been radically bent to the left. Is this an illusion or a gravity lens distortion? Any ideas.
