This is an incredible polar ring surrounding the elliptical

I would suggest it might be a #polarring with #dustlane - beautiful image

Wonderful gyroscope-like shape with that dust lane!

That's lovely. Hope it's of use to Bill. 😃

Could the ring be rotating about the major axis of the ellipsoid? If so, then it would be an equatorial ring.

It could also be some kind of gyroscope

A hypothesis to explain this ring: The nucleus of this galaxy looks like an ellipsoid. A family of confocal elliptical current loops circulate within this nucleus. These current loops create a surrounding magnetic field associated with an ellipsoid. A plane perpendicular to the major "X" axis and passing thru the "Y" "Z" axes will have a circular zone of magnetic equilibrium (balance). Charged particles get trapped in this magnetic equilibrium zone between the North and South poles.... in other words, an equatorial ring. Ref: www.geomag.us/info/Smaus/Doc/ngdc720.pdf
