Bright spot

I notice on this image that there is a brighter spot just to the right of the central part of the galaxy. Could it be a star going nova or is there another explanation? such as a nearer object between the camera the viewed galaxy? I am new to this site so please excuse my inexperience.

It could be a foreground star, but it could also be an artifact.
