unusual in that it appears to be disturbed without a clear cause. also it has many beautiful star forming blue areas.

Wow. What an incredible image.
Possibly it's not the main galaxy disturbed. I wonder if a dwarf galaxy strayed too close and is in the process of being ripped to shreds and consumed by the main galaxy? Similar to Shoemaker-Levi-9 and Jupiter?

Notice the bright white dot at the end of the star trail inside the galaxy? I wonder if that could be the nucleus of of the dwarf being pulled into the center of the galaxy?
Could also be a foreground star and a chance alignment.
