Tidal debris

Amazing.
I don't see any other galaxies near it (in SDSS Navigate)
I don't think it is a galaxy jet, because then it would be listed as an X-ray source.
I had wanted to it be a shell galaxy created by high-speed collision, but then I would expect more blue starforming areas.

I like your explanation of tidal debris, maybe with the satellite galaxy being torn apart behind the bigger galaxy. I think I see some of the satellite galaxy behind the lower left of the main galaxy.
