    I would like to know what all the little dots outside the Galaxy are? Is it dust or asteroids or more stars further away?

    You wouldn't be able to see stars in another galaxy. We look through our own galaxy at others, so there's a lot of 'stuff' in between us and them. There's also light that can register on the pixels in the telescope camera that we see as the dots in pictures. We are also looking closely at pictures that are much bigger. Think how pictures on a computer look when zoomed in on. Pixelation. The orientation is different below.
