Blunted Edges?

Can anyone explain the strangely blunted or flattened tips of this galaxy?

looks like an extremely thick spiral, like a tire.

But what would cause the uniform thickness? Spiraling should cause flattening and dissipation at the edges.

If you use the "View raw data in different wavelengths" and view in log or sqrt, you'll notice the nucleus is offset to the NE, as if the upper half is the galaxy per se, and the bottom is a wraparound of a spiral arm. So maybe an artifact of the viewing angle.
